Noticing . . . acknowledging the Presence of another . . . even by a quick meeting of the eyes and a nod . . . links us together.
Ah, we all have stories, God. And it is healing for us to tell them — to share them with folks who will laugh with us and not at us. But, Dr. Brene Brown cautions about only sharing our “Shame Stories” with people who have shown themselves worthy (trustworthy) of hearing them.
But, we do need to dredge out Rocks of Regret, Resentment and Rage . . . to have the waters flow. In me, the Water often trickles. I am semi-willfully blind to all the rocks I have buried, covered over . . . or made idols and altars of.
Stories of real people doing good things, helping others, surmounting great odds, etc. I love that idea, God! Why hasn’t some billionaire thought of that?
All those tangled and entangling feelings and half-formed thoughts wiggled their way out into Consciousness — into My Consciousness as I heard myself speaking.
I need someone to ask me how I’m doing and to slip in a gentle question that knocks me back off of comfortable dead center.
people got up and shared — some stories were funny and some were sad but all were kind. There was a lovely sense of respect and appreciation for each person who had left us.
No wonder I didn’t want to look at them! Labeling some feelings as Bad sure does push them down below consciousness. How Harsh! And, worse yet, how very Counter Productive!
So much of the fabric of our life is woven by our families — and by our friends. I have no explanation as to why I have been so fortunate in both family and friends — so blessed in general.
