The Eiffel Tower and A Matter of Scale

Eiffel Tower

Good Morning, God.  I can still remember how surprised I was by the Eiffel Tower.  I was so familiar with the image that I discounted it as “touristy.” But as I approached it I was blown away by its size.  I didn’t have the scale right!

I suspect that is one of the things we have “wrong” in our “understanding” of YOU.  Our minds just can’t do the order of magnitude adjustments needed — yes, I am overlooking the qualitative surprises as beyond contemplation.  Just the SIZE question staggering.  Kit and I were touring Duke University when I happened upon the photo taken from the Hubble Space Craft of what I thought at first were stars.  But, as I peered at it — I could see that the little dots of light were GALAXIES.  Oh my.  Moments like that plunge me into a state of AWE.

God, with AWE comes the thought that maybe YOU are TOO BIG to CARE!  But, I HEAR — TOO BIG NOT TO CARE!

Even so I sense that CARE is too SMALL a word for what You do. For it feels to me as if You WANT us to invite You IN — to extend, balance and renew us.  Those words are close but there is so much MORE.  We are being invited to “TAKE PART” in LIFE.  Ah my . . . AN ABUNDANT LIFE . . . in more ways than we can imagine.
